Caring For Our Environment

Rock Posters is an award-winning sustainability leader and advocates strongly for the environment and the responsibility we all share to reduce waste, re-use what we can and recycle wherever possible.

Green Paper

Rock Posters substantial investment in Australian made Revive Laser 100% Recycled Carbon Neutral paper supports the following environmental, social and economic benefits:

Environmental benefits for every 5 tonnes purchased:

  • 10 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions offset by using Climate Active certified carbon neutral paper.
  • 5 tonnes of local office waste paper was recycled, which would otherwise be diverted to local landfill or exported.
  • Equivalent to 14 tonnes of CO2 landfill emissions saved.
  • Compliance with Sustainable Forestry Management certifications (PEFCTM or FSC®).
  • Approximately 50% of energy used at the Mill of manufacture is generated from renewable sources.

Rock Posters is strongly committed to strengthening the circular economy, reducing waste, recycling and all aspects of our business operating with sustainability in mind.

Benefits By The Tonne

There are many clear and measurable benefits when paper products are recycled. Below you will find the major benefits derived from recycling one tonne of paper. Beyond these well understood upsides there are many related ones not immediately apparent. For example, recycling creates more employment opportunities than land-filling. This is because paper recycling industry creates jobs in sorting, processing, and manufacturing, supporting local economies.

Trees

Recycling 1 tonne of paper saves approximately 17 to 20 mature trees from being harvested, which directly preserves forest ecosystems by protecting wildlife habitats, and maintaining complex natural systems.

Water

Recycling one tonne of paper can save approximately 26,500 litres of water. Making paper from recycled materials uses significantly less water than producing it from virgin wood pulp.

Oil

Recycling 1 tonne of paper saves approximately 2.5 to 3.5 barrels of oil. This reduction is achieved because the recycling process bypasses the energy-intensive stages of harvesting and processing virgin wood.

Energy

Recycling 1 tonne of paper can save around 4,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity. This energy saving is equivalent to powering an average Australian home for seven to eight months.

Landfill

Recycling 1 tonne of paper diverts this material from landfills, conserving around 3 cubic meters of valuable landfill space and preventing the release of methane as paper decomposes.

Pollution

Recycling 1 tonne of paper reduces air pollution by around 73% and water pollution by around 35%, as compared to virgin paper. Paper recycling is a key player in the fight against climate change.

Green Posters

We have invented the “Green Poster“, a product made from post-consumer waste which reduces landfill and associated emissions and is printed on using vegetable-based ink. The transportation of posters for installation is entirely offset with Greenfleet, a 25-year-old not-for-profit organisation and Australia’s first carbon offset provider.

We are represented at the board level with Green Music Australia, where we contribute to industry-wide initiatives to help make the music and entertainment industry more sustainable.

Rock Posters were awarded the prestigious Premier’s Sustainability Award in 2022.

We work closely with Darebin City Council and are officially recognised as “Greening Our Business”, a status only attained after a detailed audit.

Also,  our employees are contributing to the Keep Australia Beautiful’s (one of Australia’s oldest environmental groups) program to re-vegetate barren land with indigenous restoration planting: https://www.kabvic.org.au/
